Flash Fiction Friday prompt #1: Slanted House

Without further ado, here is my entry:

“Throught the Glass Darkly”

Alice shook the snow globe furiously, but it was no use. The flakes refused to fall. Tears filled her eyes. She watched as the once happy scene grew more desperate. Where once had been a beautiful mansion with a flower garden, there was now a slanted house with a strange amphitheater out front. Where she had seen tiny people living their lives, there were now shadowy wraiths flitting through the downtrodden windows.

“It looks like a mausoleum,” Alice thought, shuddering.

What more could she do, but confess to her uncle about what she had done. He had warned her not to remove any of the objects from the backroom. Yet, from the moment she had seen the little globe, something had compelled her to steal it. Now, the little world lay dying.

Alice slowly approached her uncle’s office, carrying the globe under one arm. She knocked on his door. “Uncle Vincent, may I come in?”

Alice watched as the doorknob turned and the door creaked open. She pushed against it cautiously. She did not know what her punishment would be, but she intended to face it. She knew her uncle was not an unkind man, but he was strict. But when she stepped through the door, she did not find herself in his office. Instead, she found herself outside standing in a familiar scene. She turned around quickly to go back, but where once had been a door there was nothing.

Suddenly, snowflakes began to fall and the scene changed.
