Raison d’etre

Raison d’etre…  the reason for being. The reason for this blog being can be answered with one simple phrase… NaNoWriMo. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is THAT time of year again. Time to chuck sense to the wind and my brains out the window. I am about to attempt another mad dash to the 50,000 word in one month finish. Why?  ‘Cause I am crazy that’s why. Of course I won’t be starting tonight. Why not? Because my old laptop is on the fritz and this one is not quite set up yet.

Anyways, I’ll be heading out now. Promise to keep things as updated as I can.

Toodle pip.

Crazy has moved in next door…

… Insane lives upstairs, and I am freakin’ out. What the heck am I going to write about for NaNoWriMo? I mean have ideas, but some of them just don’t seem novel length material. Others are just too good, and I am not ready to write them just yet. I need more practice to tell those stories right. What to do. What to do.

Oh, yes. Happy Anniversary to my dear little blog. I began this blog because of NaNoWriMo back in October of 2004.

It’s almost here…

Well, in less than 29 days I will once again step into the madness head first and try my hand at writing a 50,000 word novel in one month – the month of November to be precise. Hopefully, the Flash Fiction Friday excursions will pay off. I feel like a marathon runner… or would that be a sprinter… getting ready for an Olympic trial or something.

And of course, how could you not notice my loverly NaNoWriMo 2006 Official Participant Logo. (I am NaNo Approved.) I also have a nice little counter, which I hope will increase dutifully over the month of November. (It’s not just for turkey anymore.)

What’s done is done…

Word Count: 5850

Well, you can tell by my word count that I did not finish NaNoWriMo this year. It was not in the cards is all. I had a lot of other stuff to do. And, that other stuff was very successful. I do plan on writing though. Hopefully, my word count will increase for Boiler Makers. I may even go back to The Atlantean Prophecies because it isn’t such a bad story. I really do want to get going on this writing, but I know that every year (or couple of months) I make this promise to myself to write more, and I end up not doing it. Then I feel bad and the spiral deepens. It is very sad really. Got to try and break the cycle.

Anyways, there is always next year.

Time passes quickly…

Unfortunately, my word count has not budged since the first week of Nano for this year. I am going to try to make up for lost time due to a business event I had to prepare for, but 50,000 words may not be possible for this year. Oh well. At least, I wrote something. I would like to get close to 10,000 words at least. I have about a week and a half to go, but then there is Thanksgiving. Ugh…. there is always next year.

Making up for lost time…

Word count so far…. 3,077 words

Well, I am trying to make up for yesterday’s lack of wordsmithing. That would be referring to quantity and not quality. I should be upto 5,000 words today. Maybe I will hit that tonight. I have a few hours to go in the day and I’ve managed to write about 1100 words in about an hour and half.

I really did not want to write today. I mean yesterday was different. The lack of words was due to work, which I finished. But today, I just did not want to write anything down despite the fact that I spent last night inventing new scenes to finally get my character out of the diner I left her in. Well, I finally got my butt in gear and my fingers typing though. About frellin’ time I guess. She’s still in the diner though…. hahahaha.

Oh… and if someone wishes to make comments that someone needs to register. Something I’ve had going since I upgraded to this version of WordPress. Just sayin’.

I really do need to get some kind of NaNo word counter. Back to writing.

Not too bad…

Word count so far: 1631 words

Most of those words are pure crap, but I am okay with that. My Internal Editor is on a nice vacation in a hurricane free zone so no chance of he or she coming back early due to wind, rain, and god-like tendancies of destruction. The story isn’t as bad as I feared. I like my main character once again. Her name is Alice and the first chapter is called “The White Rabbit” just because I like referencing old childhood favorites. I am a little under the daily goal, but considering I only had 500 words a few hours ago that is not too bad.

Gonna try and hit the goal before I head off to bed. Continue this streak after I get some pay-the-bills work done.

Now that’s a way to write…

Word Count so far: 539 words

Writing is a simple trick: all you have to do is sit and stare at a blank piece of paper [or screen], until beads of blood form on your forehead… Spider Robinson

Spider has the “write” idea. Writing is sort of painful like that dull muscle ache you feel after a really good workout. You feel good during the activity, but you know you are going to regret it the next day. What I figure is if I just keep writing, even if it is only a few paragraphs a day, that pain won’t appear until December 1st. And maybe, just maybe, my mind and my hands will be used to it by then.

So here I sit with my laptop in front of me, waiting for the bloodworks to wash over me. Sure hope it does not mess up my screen.
